About

The Short Story

Zac Gorman writes, draws and in general maintains every minor detail of Montgrave from his home in Ferndale, MI where he lives with his girlfriend Suzy and their cat She-Ra.

The Whole Shebang

Zac Gorman was born in Detroit, MI in 1984. Growing up in the surrounding suburbs,  Zac spent most of his childhood playing with friends, watching cartoons, drawing superheroes, reading comicbooks, playing videogames and in general being extraordinarily happy, as these activities tend to make him feel this way.

His first comic strip was called “Fuzz Muffin” and ran in his high school newspaper. Oddly enough, this did not help him meet girls or bolster his popularity quite the way he had expected. However, it was fairly well-received by the stoners, nerds and geeks with whom he associated.

Later in life, after making the long, grueling transition into “adulthood,” he moved to Berkeley, California, and got a job doing graphic design for a tech start-up where he by pushed pixels around a page in exchange for a paper slip, which could then be transferred at the bank into some numbers, viewable by computer screen. These numbers would then go down numerically over the course of a month until he received yet another slip of paper. Then the process would repeat.

It was while at this job that he created Montgrave.

Around X-Mas 2008, Zac was laid off from his corporate design job. Continuing Montgrave for the next seven months while being unemployed was great fun and kept the whiskey demons at bay. Eventually, the pressure of preparing a move back to his homeland of Michigan and starting his life over again, destroyed the fun of doing a strip and Montgrave was put on hold for a nearly year-long hiatus.

To be continued…

About Montgrave

Montgrave can be best summed up in one word, fun.

This is the unrelenting spirit that drives Montgrave. The idea that life is not intended to be lived with your shoulders slumped, shuffling around from place to place like a zombie (unless you are a zombie, in which case, HEADSHOT!) but instead to be faced headlong with wide-eyed excitement, enthusiasm and wonder.

Montgrave is about humor, adventure and fun.

Also, it is occasionally about fart jokes.
